About

Mathematics meets the ocean. Researching extreme wave phenomena. Building systems that turn raw sensor data into insight.

I'm a computational mathematician and data scientist based in Munich. For over three years I worked at the Institute of Applied Physics (Russian Academy of Sciences), developing data pipelines, building machine learning models, and publishing peer-reviewed research on ocean wave statistics in Springer journals. I hold an MSc from the University of Passau and a BSc from the Higher School of Economics.

Where I've worked

Institute of Applied Physics · Russian Academy of Sciences

Data Scientist & R&D Engineer

Jul 2021 – Nov 2024
  • Designed an end-to-end sensor data processing application reducing runtime from 10 hours to 15 minutes (40× speedup), replacing fully manual workflows with automated ingestion, QC, feature extraction, and anomaly detection
  • Engineered a domain-driven data methodology to clean and extract statistical features from over 2.1 billion time-series datapoints from long-term field measurements
  • Built a machine learning model for predictive risk assessment achieving 93.4 % accuracy, subsequently commercialised to improve maritime safety
  • Formulated and proved a novel mathematical theorem for probability estimation of rare events in complex stochastic time-series
  • Awarded a personal research grant · presented at 19 international conferences · 2 peer-reviewed Springer publications (Scopus-indexed)

Frequency Spectra and Surface Wave Height Distributions Based on Measurements off Sakhalin Island

Large-scale statistical analysis of real-world ocean wave measurements from pressure sensors off Sakhalin Island. Derives empirical frequency spectra and wave height distributions, validating theoretical models against extensive field data. Identifies conditions contributing to elevated probability of extreme wave events dangerous to marine infrastructure.

Probability Distributions for Finite Ensembles of Irregular Waves

Numerical simulation study of the statistical behaviour in finite ensembles of irregular ocean waves. Derives probability distribution functions showing how finite-size effects deviate from classical infinite-ensemble theory, providing improved models for estimating rogue wave occurrence probability in real sea conditions.
